SCENESTR – Courtney Act 2018 Australia Tour Dates
- November 01, 2017
Australian drag performer and vocalist Courtney Act is going ‘Under The Covers’ in a tour around Australia starting early 2018.
Bursting on to the scene in 2003 as a contestant on ‘Australian Idol’, Courtney showed off her vocal abilities before taking America by storm in season six of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ three years ago.
Now, she’s combining her years of experience as a performer and a vocalist in ‘Under The Covers’, a live show featuring songs by iconic artists that have all been covered in some way.
She’ll be stripping down the musical numbers and flipping them on their back in order to show audiences just how gender/genre fluid music can be. From Dolly Parton to Harry Styles, from The Spice Girls to Queen… Courtney wants to leave her fans pillow fighting and pillow biting.
“I’m looking forward to ticking off a lot more of Australia than I have been in the last couple of years,” Courtney says. “I did [the last show] ‘The Girl From Oz’ for a year and a bit and you evolve, so this show is part of that evolution.”
“I’m really looking forward to being on stage with a show that’s bigger and better than my last one, and taking it to more places!”
Courtney Act breaks the rules, living life on the gender divide. She’s described as “a pop star in the making for a new generation that is beyond labels”.
The performer says you can expect to see “what happens ‘under the covers’ of songs that have been covered by famous people.”
“Songs that many people know are covers, like ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston which should never be sung by anyone except Whitney Houston… Unless you’re singing the original Dolly Parton version which is what I’ll be doing. I’m not foolish enough to attempt the Whitney Houston version.”
You can also expect to see songs that not so many people know are covers, like Madonna’s ‘Ray Of Light’ (which was originally done by Curtiss Maldoon).
Tickets for ‘Under The Covers’ go on sale 3 November. Dates are below.
